From story on NPR that aired on July14th: Howard University in Washington, D.C., is one institution where the Defense Department is paying for students to learn less-commonly taught languages, like Korean and Arabic. In this report, Steve Inskeep interviews Dr. James Davis, Director of Language Studies at Howard, as well as some of the high school aged students who participated in the program… and if I heard correctly, the students were paid a $1000 stipend to participate.
Apparently mission critical languages are worthy of mission critical support.
