This semester Barbara is participating in a little research project with a colleague in the Oberlin Conservatory. We are looking at ways to use iPods in the classroom. Or out of the classroom. Or both. Our colleague Brian is teaching two sections of a Music Theory class and Barbara is teaching an Advanced Spanish Conversation Class.
The reasons for exactly how and why these tools will be used are as varied as the courses being taught… more to follow, but for the moment here is a glimpse at what the office looks like with all of these new toys as they are being readied for use in just a few weeks… (Kudos to Erin for taking on the task of filling up these babies with Brian’s music, and the .pdfs of the musical scores and….and…)
Little known (or maybe just ignored) fact: iPods as storage devices: not only are iPods great for listening to music, they are also portable storage devices. And big ones at that. (Insert sound of hand slapping forehead) ALL of your reserve materials can be stored on the ipod. (Yes, Virginia, even realmedia files that the video ipod won’t play … the ipod can store it and then the student can download it to a machine for viewing)
