Announcing: Radio Ambulante in the Classroom

This entry is part [part not set] of 6 in the series #RAintheClassroom

#RAintheclassroom

Starting today, and thanks to many weeks of work with my Radio Ambulante colleagues Silvia Viñas and Clara González Sueyro, a new project is being launched: Radio Ambulante in the Classroom (#RAintheclassroom).

We have prepared a really short questionnaire to ask for information from teachers who have used RA’s stories in the classroom or teachers who are interested in getting started. If you use RA already, please let us know. If you are interested in learning more, adelante!  There is a FAQ page as well which has helpful info about ways in which these stories can be an asset to your teaching and your students’ learning.

We conducted several hours of interviews with teachers this semester. These were teachers who had contacted us via our previous survey and who wanted to share their stories and best practices. Our conversations and their stories were amazing and we hope to share them with the rest of the world via the RA site very very soon.

(In fact, if you scroll down the page a bit you can see a couple of current testimonials…my own and a student whom I met who discovered Radio Ambulante while studying away in Argentina…we hope to add more of these stories)

One of our first goals is to create a space where teachers can share materials, ideas, herramientas for using RA in the classroom. We are open to ideas and welcome your comments.

I am super excited about working with the Radio Ambulante team and with the teachers I have met and will come to know through this project. There is more to come!

Please join us!

Hi Barbara. I was at the Univ of Texas at Austin in June and remember seeing / hearing you there.

I’d definitely love to see exactly how other educators are implementing Radio Ambulante in their classrooms. I know that many of them ARE, but I’d like to see exactly how. Do most teachers assign listening as HW, and then debrief in class? Or are teachers actually playing a full-length Vimeo video in class, with guided Q’s for sts to do? What’s working best, especially for high schoolers (heritage sts in my case)? Is it best to break it up and listen to half of a program one class and a second half the next?

Let us know what high school teachers have found best. Interesting blog you have going here!

Thanks for the comments and apologies for my slow response. Yes, I agree, we need to make the work that others are doing with RA more visible and available to others to see but also learn from.

As I write I am in DC with the entire RA team getting ready for the Live Show… I hope to have a conversation with Carolina the CEO about this very topic while here. More soon!
