So I was in the office on a Saturday trying to get caught up on stuff from the week before (note to Pete: not only did it rain last week…we got 10 inches of rain in two days and oh boy it has not been pretty in my basement for about a week now) … and lo and behold Joe Dale sends out a Twitter message about how there was a Flashmeeting event happening and people were welcome to join in. So, tired of filling our permissions forms for publishers so we might upload texbook audio to Bb, I clicked on the url and off I went.
Oh my goodness. Suddenly I was chatting away with Joe and Terry Freedman and the Flashmeeting creators (Jeff and Paul, I believe, both from the Open University of the UK) as well as others from around the UK and the US. The audio was great as was the video. Stay tuned for more experimentations with this tool. And by all means, check it out for yourself!
During the text and audio and video chat, I was nudged once more to think about using Voicethread. This tool has some extraordinary possibilities for language teaching and learning, not to mention digital storytelling, death to powerpoint presentations, etc Here is a little ditty that I did in about 15 seconds (and it shows). It connects with Flickr and it provides a url so you can embed your work into a page…like…this:
And amazingly… you can add an audio comment by clicking on the record button in the little video window! try it out!

Yeah, I agree, Voicethread is great. I showed last week during my language technology boot camp workshop and at least one of our language residents will use it this semester. I’ll also propose it to my students as a tool to present their projects for the German media class.
I think a Tech-o Tuesday episode on digital narrative solutions (Photo Story 3, Pulpmotion, Comic Life, Voicethread, iMovie, …) would be cool.
