Team and Task Management

When it comes to managing teams, such as student workers, it is difficult to make sure everything gets done. When there is a group of people, something always falls through the cracks. For example, a student worker A is working on  task for a professor. His shift is ending, but he forgets to tell student worker B  to finish the task. When student worker A returns two days later for another shift, he assumes that student worker B finished it.

asanaAt some point the professor will tell me that the project never got finished. Since I was never involved in this project, I have no idea what my colleague is talking about. Does this sound familiar? Read on!

What is needed is a group task management system. There are many different ones out there, and we tested several. In the end we settled on Asana, which is amazing and made it so easy to log tasks and share them or hand them off. A commenting feature helps cut down on e-mail. Learning how to use Asana only takes a few minutes, and the help files and videos are excellent. Best of all, up to 15 users are free! Adding tasks can be done in a browser, an app on the iPhone, or by e-mail. Everything gets logged, which is great because I can see who did what when.

If you work in or for a small team, go ahead and give Asana a try! It really changed our work routines.
