Tech-o Tuesday #2: No Assembly Required

Hi folks!

We’re back from vacation and (making our way towards) getting caught up. For Tech-o Tuesday #2, I’m joined by our co-blogger Felix for reviews of four web-based audio tools that require no special software installation: Skypecasts, Chinswing, Odeo, and Yackpack. I also mentioned in the show that we’d post a link to third-party tools that Skype recommends for recording Skypecasts; here it is.

We hope to make the dual-host format a trend in our Tech-o Tuesday podcast, and we’d love to hear from you as well! Our next episode will be a two-part series focusing on the following offline audio recording tools:

I’d also recommend Gcast and Evoca.

Thanks, Larry! A quick rundown of both tools:

  • Evoca has two levels of service. A free account will allow you o record up to 15 minutes of audio via phone or their web-based recording tool, and they’ll even host it for you! (Also, apparently you can search your recordings word-for-word. I’m not really sure how that works, though.) A professional account ($15 for 3 months) gets you an additional 180 minutes of recording time, and allows access to easy recording of Skype calls. With either account, you can order a written transcript of your conversation for $2.50 per minute of recorded audio (though I must note that CastingWords does the same thing much more inexpensively - 75 cents per minute of recorded audio, IIRC).
  • GCast, on the other hand, has only one membership level: free! Free hosting, free recording by phone, free podsafe music from GarageBand.com, free playlist creation.

Does anybody have personal experience with either of these tools that they’d like to share?
