Skype voicemail messages as podcasts

I have just discovered that you can convert skype voicemail messages to mp3s using Audio Hijack Pro. This presents all sorts of wonderful possibilities…

One thing we talked about at the NITLE meeting was a desire to add audio to the blogging around the world project. Since some students are studying in very remote parts of the world with little internet access, the possibility of connecting with them for a skype conference call may be slim, but having them “call in” to the blog from the field now appears to be possible!

Here’s how: a Skype account can have a “skype in”number and with that a voicemail service. It is possible to leave a voicemail message via the phone… or via a computer… which when captured and converted to mp3 using a tool such as Audio Hijack Pro.

Think of the possibilities!

Hello Barbara, We are experimenting with Audioblog.com are quite pleased. For $5/month/5gigs you can also call into your blog from a phone. Just checked and WordPress is supported. No conversion necessary by the user– it automatically posts to your blog from the phone. Could also purchase phone cards for students so the long distance calling bills do not get out of hand.
